Synopsis

In our opening we meet the main character, a young girl. She looks a state with cuts and bruises while wearing ripped clothes(see to the right). Then as shes in the shower, she has some flash backs. These do not give much away, however it looks as if she may have been held captive by a man. After the minor flash backs, and once the opening scene ends, her mother would come home and be reunited with the daughter. Then the girl would obviously be questioned, however she doesnt seem to be talking as due to her tramatic experience she suffers from memory loss and only has the occasional flashbacks to go on. So she undertakes sessions with a therapist, and even attempts to retrieve informtion by hypnosis, and near the end of the film one of these hypnosis sessions will play a vital role of the result of the end of the case... Throughout the film not only is she trying to cope with whatever ordeal she went through, and get back to some routine in everyday life it is made hard by the ongoing never ending investigation. Especially when mysterious things start to happen, causing her to believe who ever it was captured her, wants her back before the return of her memory. But can she face the fact of going back to the depths of whats behind closed doors in her mind, and will she do it in time??....

Location (Jon)

We had a number of choices for the location of the woods/road scene. We started by looking at Google Maps for a wood with a road, in Ardingly or Horstead Keynes.

Once we had established the best place via the aerial view, we visited the location to check the logistics of it.

We settled on Ardingly, as it seemed the most practical and effective location to film.

Lighting(Tom)

The Forest scenes
we are using final cut pro to change the lighting so that's its slightly darker creating the vision of night. we are also using headlights from the car to light up the girl when she is walking down the road

The Shower Scene
we are using normal ceiling lights to light this scene, maybe also a redhead for a shadow effect.

The House Scene
we will be using a redhead because we are not going to show the persons face, the person who abuses the girl, to create a mystery as to who this is.

Pre-production planning (Ays)

Script- We do not have a script at all through out our thriller opening as we want it to look intense and also make the audience wonder what is and has happening/happened so by not having a script it leaves the feeling of confusion and also keeps the audience drawn in as they will want to know what is going on and who the character is.

Health and Safety- we will be shooting the majority of it in the woods in Ardingly so we need to make sure the person acting in the woods can not trip over anything or fall onto anything sharp and dangerous such as a stick or thorns so we need to scan the area so that we can check it is sasfe to run through. Also we will need to warn the public of our filming as dog walkers may come across us and be confused or scared of what we are doing and report us thinking that we are causing trouble or even possibly walk into our shots, so we will need to warn local people of the where abouts and times that we will be filming.
Another location is in a shower/bath so we need to make sure that the actor can't slip and hurt themselves .
Also props we will be using could be dangerous as we wanted to try and find a syringe but obviously the needle if we used one would be very dangerous so we would most probably try to get hold of a syringe with no needle to keep it safe. We also were going to maybe use a car for the headlights but having a car would be dangerous as it could hit someone if not under control so we could possibly use a ten million candle portable tourches to represent the headlights instead as it would be safer to do so as they can't move or harm anyone as much as a car would. We also are going to use rope so we just have to make sure we do not tie it too tight to cause bruising or injury but so it still looks tight, also we need to make sure it is not left lying around as someobody could trip over it and hurt themselves.

Tom- Arlington road

camera work
  • the first shot is complete darkness, then it fades into blurs of a child, then the shot changes to his feet, still in blur to make the audience confused of what they see
  • then a low angle shot of the child's legs walking towards the camera, we can see he is struggling to walk, almost like a zombie
  • extreme close op of the child's eyes, not in the centre of the shot, his eyes look intense
  • a blurred pan of the trees and the roof tops, looking through his eyes
  • a close up of his feet struggling to walk again, this time its much clearer, this keeps the audience interested because we don't know whats wrong with him, puts questions into his head
  • a close up of the back of his head, again not in the centre of the shot which shows unsteadiness
  • a blurred mid close up of his mouth, open a bit which is like a zombie, also it pans to his eyes which again suggests that he is a zombie because they aren't focused on anything
  • low angle shot of houses, a POV shot because the camera moves as if he is walking with it
  • side view extreme close up of the kids face again, really emphasizing that he isn't well or hes a zombie
  • a quick shot of him turning his head then going back to a POV shot of houses, its really blurred
  • a low angle shot of the child clutching his arm, looks in pain and in distress
  • the next few camera shots are very quick, which builds action in the scene, then its back to a very low angle shot of his feet struggling to walk
  • you then see droplets of blood on his shoes which shows that hes hurt, this helps the audience to understand why he has been walking and looking like he has
  • then next shot is the same shot but he is walking quicker which builds the pace of the scene and builds the action
  • there is then an over the shoulder shot of a man driving a car, we see in the shot that he has to brake suddenly to not hit the child
  • there is a mid close up shot of the kids face, looking really unwell which shows that maybe these two characters are linked
  • there is a small panning shot of the man getting out of the car, stopping for the kid
  • long shot of the kid walking up the road
  • cuts back and forth between the kid and the man, this builds the suspense because we know that the kid is in a bad way but he doesn't
  • a panning shot of the kid, then we see his wound on his arm, its really gory, this helps the audience to realise that he has been hurt this whole time, we don't know why he is hurt, this is what the audience wants to know, also they zoom in on his wound which is really shocking and disturbing
  • a quick panning of the man stopping the kid, the camera shots speed up to keep up with the action
  • a mid close up shot of the kid collapsing in his arms, the kid then becomes normal in this situation and is in a lot of pain, he is screaming which makes the audience really shocked, and the camera is constantly moving around them which builds the shock up nicely
  • a close up shot of the kid on the floor in extreme pain to emphasize how bad his injury is
  • a quick shot of the car driving past then the pale close up shot of his face

sound

  • starts of with low eary music to build up what sort of scene it is
  • although the music is still eary, there is still normal sounds like birds singing
  • we then here voices in the child's head, saying for him to do it? which makes the audience want to know what he is saying to do
  • there is then a build in the music, which creates an anticlimax
  • the voices in his head start up again, him saying to do it and hurry up, this makes the audience try to guess what it is he was doing
  • the eary music then picks up and the voices in his head gets loader, building up the action using sound
  • when he turns his head the music quickens and gets more eary and load, matching action with sound
  • there is a voice in his head that then gets really load and says let me out, this is a desperate cry for help, then the music picks up a lot
  • the music then dyes down, then when there is a base hit we see the blood on his shoes, this shocks the audience because we weren't expecting it
  • the music then picks up in speed when he starts walking quickly, then it jumps to the man in the car
  • from this scene til the end the music is very fast, this matches with the quick paced action
  • when we see his wound the music peaks, this is the massive climax that this whole scene has been leading up to
  • he then yells for help and the kid screams in pain, this creates a very dramatic effect because he screams for help but know one comes and the kid screams in pain but no one can help him apart from this one man

mise en scene

  • the location is key to this clip because he is in, what you would expect to be a busy road of houses, however the road is completely empty which adds to the eary effect
  • the kid is dressed in normal cloths, and the man is in a shirt and tie which suggests that he is on his way to work, he drives a nice car which suggests that he has a good job
  • its also cloudy which adds to the effect

Thriller Research - Blinded - Jon

  • Lots of confusion, traffic close up shots
  • There are close up shots of traffic lights turning red and green. This shows the passing of time.
  • We hear horns in the background, before cutting to the succession of shots of cars, at various angles. This creates confusion.
  • We then see something is wrong with the character in the car at the front, the shot through the car windscreen shows him grasping his eyes in pain.
  • The camera cuts rapidly through various drivers all shouting and honking their horns. This adds to the panic.
  • Once the character has been dropped off on the crossing, the camera positioning is at a high angle long shot, which portrays the characters isolation and panic. This is accompanied with blurring of the surrounding areas which adds to the confusion.
  • All of the shots have a low colour saturation setting, which gives a very dim and dark look to the shots, while the lighting remains high key.
Oddly, there are no classic Mise En Scene elements that portray the thriller theme. It is very naturalistic in the camera work, etc. The only exception to the naturalism is the scene in the car, where we hear the blind character describing what he sees.

Tom- Die Hard 4.0

camerawork
  • the first shot it a tracking shot, moving behind computers which is good because it sets the scene that we are inside, it then moves to someone on a computer, their eyes look concentrated.
  • their is a zoom onto the computer screen he is looking at that says unlocking password which shows that he is hacking into something
  • a close up of his face, which then quickly moves to a close up of his fingers typing which shows that he is working hard and fast
  • their is then tiny shots of links moving across then screen
  • a tracking mid close up shot of a woman, its behind a shelf which could show that someone is watching her, and that the stuff on the shelf is very technical
  • a side on view of the male characters face, because he looks behind him to see is anyones watching him
  • a close up of the womans face
  • an extreme close up of the computer transferring something, this is shown because its important in the scene, and makes the audience want to know what is being transferred, also this links in that he just sent her something
  • a close up of a table on the computer, a sign changes from assigned to delivered to show thats its been sent
  • an eye level medium long shot of the guy at the computer, again from the side because it shows how big the room that he is in is
  • then cuts to a mid close up of the woman again, this shows that they are communicating with each other
  • a mid close up shot of a different guy, his face is covered by a shelf which shows, at first, that it isnt clear who he is
  • a close up shot of his hands typing which links him in with the first guy
  • this next shot is only for a split second but it shows a digital image of a robotic face on the computer, which then gets wiped by alot of numbers and codes, this makes the audience interested in what he is doing
  • a mid close up of the man who was covered before, typing on the computer which shows that he is concentrating on something
  • a big close up of the screen loading something, then it saying access granted which shows that he just got into an important page on the computer
  • the same shot again but then it cuts to the womans face
  • then her computer saying delivered, which shows that they are commmunicating and he just sent her something
  • a side on close up of the womans face, they used this because to the side of her is another character on the computer, which could show that they are working together
  • another side on mid close up of the second male taking a drink which could show that he is slightly tired
  • the next couple of shots are of the second male and the woman talking over the computer
  • it then cuts to a high angle shot of a house, this shot sets where the new scene is
  • then there is shooting on a video game, gears of war, which is an anti climax because at first you think its proper violence but then you see its a game
  • their is then a two shot from a low angle of someone coming out of a kitchen into the living room
  • then cuts to one of the two characters sitting at his computer
  • the next couple of shots are of his computer not working, then his reaction to it not working, confused, these shots happen quickly because their is a build up to an explotion
  • the explotion is shot from many different angles enfisizing how big the explotion is

sound

  • at the start their is very low music, with random sounds of computer technology, this sets what type of film it is because the low sounds mean suspence
  • the next sounds are also from the computer, of loading and shots moving. then there is a boom for the first title of actors names
  • the music is continuous, then the first line is "well?" this starts of the dialog with a question
  • then the next line "im sending you the code" shows that they are getting codes for something, also the loading sounds help to show that
  • their is then a musical climax, then another title which creates an anticlimax
  • more typing from the second male, continuous low music
  • more loading noises and typing
  • then dialog of the second male sending the female something, its not very spesific which makes the audience want to know more
  • he asks her" are you sure this is legal" which hugly hints that what they are doing isnt legal because his voice sounds unsure
  • then it cuts to her saying "we are ready" which again isnt spesific
  • the music climaxs at the shot outside the house, then changes to shooting sounds on gears of war inside, anti climax
  • one of the two characters inside the house says "guess who just made fifty Gs today?" and the other character is unfazed by it which shows that its small money for them
  • the two characters talk quickly about his computer being frozen, all this time the music is building up, then when he hits the delete button the music stops which shows that its at the peak of the climax
  • then the massive sound of the explotion.

mise en scene

  • the computers are vital to this whole film because they are what fuel the action, they send a virus which hits the person's computer, then when they hit delete they blow up. it is set in very dark rooms, because its easier to concentrate, also there is very little lighting in the sequences apart from the computer screens, its also set at night time which adds to the action because even outside its dark.

Tom - Wallander

camerawork

  • the first shot an unfocused shot of a trees leafs blowing around, this shot sets what sort of season it is, obviously summer. its not in focus because it isn't majorly important

  • then their is an eye level shot of a girl walking through a yellow Field, the camera is behind her following her, it then changes so the camera is watching her, she looks like she is struggling to get through the Field, halfway through the shot she shows that she has some sort of liquid with her

  • the next shot is of inside of a car moving quickly, we can see that he is driving past the yellow Field because its just a big yellow blur

  • there is an over the shoulder shot of the guy driving

  • then their is an extreme long shot of the car, it looks like someone is watching the car from the field, the girl maybe?

  • the next shot is a POV shot of the man in the car driving up a long road, there is a sense of something being in the yellow field because it shows both sides of the road

  • it then skips to him pulling up to a house

  • there is then two shots of a chain moving, the shots are quick which shows sudden urgency, then we see the dog barking on the chain

  • this shot is a mid close up of the man that has come out of the house

  • the next shot is from inside the house looking out to the two men, could show that someone is inside looking at them

  • this shot pans up to the first guys face, also to our right of his head he is holding a badge, this shows us what sort of work he is in

  • the next shot is a two person shot, them walking towards the camera, the camera moving backwards, whilst in this shot the camera moves up to their faces

  • we then see through his eyes looking for something in the field, we see the girl pop up then duck down quickly which shows us that she is hiding from them

  • their is then a close up of the policeman, he looks focused on where she is, the shot after is looking at both the men's backs before the agent starts walking into the Field

  • a close up on some sort of talisman that she is holding

  • a close up again of the woman's face, its blurred because she is hiding in a Field so even for the audience its hard to see her, also shows mystery because no one knows why she is their

  • an extreme long shot of the whole Field with the agent in the bottom right of the screen, to show how big the field is, high angle to help show this

  • then the same shot of the girl but this time it pans up as she gets up which shows that maybe shes starting to trust him

  • its then an eye level shot of the man walking through the field, his body is covered so you can only see his top part of his body, this is suspicious because we don't know whats in the field

  • it cuts quickly to her starring at him from a far, to show that she might be listening to him

  • the shots stay the same for a few seconds until the girl ducks back down, this makes us suspicious of her because we don't know what she is doing

  • their is then a mid close up of the man with his badge out, this could have frightened her

  • their is then four mini shots of her dousing herself in the liquid she is holding, the first is a close up of her undoing the cap, the next two are of her pouring it onto her, these shots are slightly shaky which shows her urgency through the camera, and the last one is of her popping back up again wet

  • he then stops, looking at, the camera shows that he is confused as to what she is doing

  • the next shot is very powerful because it shows her pouring the rest of the fuel down herself in front of him

  • he then stops in suspense, the way he is positioned is good because he is in the right hand side of the frame and the yellow field is on the left, this tells the audience that if she catches on fire then the field will go up as well, he starts running towards her, the camera going with him

  • a high angle shot of him running towards her, these next shots are short and snappy because it builds tension in the scene

  • an extreme close up of her trying to turn the lighter, she is in distress so she doesn't get it first time,

  • a mid close up of him running towards her,

  • one more close up of her turning the lighter

  • then from a high angle, extreme long shot we see her set the field alight

sound

  • the beginning sequence is almost dream like because you can see a blur of branches rustling and the music is dreamlike, also nearing the end of that scene the music climax's which creates an anticlimax when the next shot is the girl in the Field
  • their is consistent background music which still adds tension to the scene, also the rustling of the crops as she walks through them
  • the music Carry's on all the way through the car driving scene, linking the movie together
  • the chain sound then starts as the dog runs towards the car, breaking the music slightly and keeping the tension in the scene
  • the music then slowly fades as he gets out the car
  • from the way the two characters both speak you can tell that they are very different, the agent is very well spoken and normal where as the farmer is very country
  • when he gives him the binoculars a low ringing sound starts, which builds up more tension, because we don't know what we are going to see through them
  • then very soft music plays which could be showing the audience that she is no threat
  • the way the farmer says mind my bloody crop makes him sound angry with the agent even though he is helping him, also when the agent gets into the crop the music peaks again
  • the next shot we hear that the woman is in distress and very upset, also we hear the ringing of whatever she is holding
  • throughout her hiding and him calling for her there is background music which again keeps the tension high, also when he calls for her his voice echo's which shows how big the field is
  • when he says police a low sound starts, which could be her worry heightening, because she doesn't want to get arrested, every time he says police the music gets more dramatic, and the last time he says it she ducks down
  • when she pours the liquid on her the music drastically picks up, showing that something big is about to happen
  • in this section the music has heart beat which gets quicker and quicker as it goes on
  • once he realises what she is doing the music again picks up, getting ready for the climax when she sets herself on fire, also when she does that the fire lets out a very high pitch squeal, like a pipe burst

mise en scene

  • where it is set is very interesting because its outside, looks hot and sunny and is in the middle of a field which is clever because we don't know fully whats in the field so it builds up questions in the audiences mind, also when she eventually sets herself on fire it create more of a hazard because the crops will burn with her
  • its also clever how she reveals the container through the crops
  • the thing which is holding the dog back is loose and wobbly which shows that the dog could get off the chain and attack the agent so again it puts questions in the audiences head, also the chain shows the dog is dangerous
  • his cloths show that he is formal, yet casual, because its a shirt and jacket but buttons undone and no tie
  • the farmers cloths shows that he is a definite contrast in character
  • the police badge shows us what his job is
  • the police badge also scares the girl, this helps her to make her desicion to kill herself
  • the fire is quite a powerful image because its her killing herself infornt of the agent, him wanting to help her

Jon - Arlington Road - Research

Setting
The first scene is of a boy walking down an empty road. The shots are very blurred, in slow-motion, and the depth of field is constantly altered. This creates a sense of confusion and disorientation, mimicking what the character (boy) is feeling. We don't know what's wrong with the boy, until the main character pulls up, sees the boy and turns him around. Even then, all we see is a lot of blood and an injured hand. This confusion is maintained throughout the opening sequence, whilst the boy is driven to hospital, and inside the hospital itself.

Characters
  • The first character we see is the boy stumbling down the road. We can't see what's wrong with him, except we hear the voices in his head, and this makes us confused about his intentions, or the reasons he is stumbling.
  • The man who spots the boy and takes him to hospital seems like a caring man. First of all when he screams for help, it is with passion, and there is a close up of his face showing the anguished expression. Secondly whilst he is in the hospital and the boy gets taken away, he keeps looking after the boy caringly.
Sound
The sound maintains a drone, throughout the first scene. It matches with the disorientation of the character, and the disorientation of the audience. There are diegetic echoed voices, seemingly in the characters head. They climax with the sound of an explosion, and this is matched to the driver coming round the corner.
The music changes when the boy is turned around, and becomes very fast paced.

Mise en Scene
  • The blood is the main thriller aspect.
There are also no credits in this sequence.

Tom Se7en

camera work
  • first shot is a shot of the characters back, it sets the scene that you are in a house, it also shows that this character is very clean because if you look around his kitchen you can see nothing left on the counter. he then walks towards the counter buttoning up his shirt, which tells the audience he is preparing to go somewhere.
  • the next shot is a mid close up that shows him doing up his tie, this is very significant because he does it up very precisely which shows that he wants to look very smart, making his tie look right
  • there is then a shot of him picking up items from a table, the items are put out in a specific order which shows he is organised
  • then the shot shows him picking dust of his suit, from a low angle shot, they used this shot because it shows that his suit is perfectly laid out on the bed, which again shows that he is very neat and organised.
  • there is then a scene change to a slow tilt of a dead body showing that someone has been murdered, because the tilt reveals blood next to the body
  • then there is another, even slower tilt of the main character walking towards the camera looking around the room, this shot helps the audience to know that he is a detective
  • the next shot is a shot of another investigator
  • it then jumps back to him, a slow tilt going up when he stands up straight from him looking at the fridge
  • the camera then tilts down to show the other main character running up the stairs, his movements also suggest that he is a detective
  • it then chops between the different characters talking using mid close ups
  • the next shot is outside, people wheeling away the dead body and the detectives coming out the door, they use a low angle shot looking up to show the derelict buildings behind them. in the same shot the camera then dollies beside them, still keeping the low angle and shows the younger character bumping into people, showing that he is more unprofessional then the other. the camera stops when the stop, then switches places so the characters are round the other way moving up when the get closer, then back when they walk away.

mise en scene

  • the first image is of his kitchen, which is nice and clean, also he owns a chess board and is buttoning up a shirt which suggests that he is clever and going out somewhere
  • then it shows him doing up his tie, this is a longer shot because its shows how precis he is about looking smart, creating a good character.
  • the next clip shows how organised he is, he has a pocket watch, a smart pen and other items lined out in a specific order which shows he is neat
  • the next item is his suit, perfectly laid out on the bed, this shows how clean he is also his bed is perfectly made which emphasizes my point
  • the scene changes to a dark room with a dead body in it, a single light on the top of the dead body to show what we should be looking at, also their is blood on the floor which shows that their has been a murder
  • their is blood on the blinds as well as the floor which shows that it was quite a brutal death
  • the main character looks unhappy when he takes of his glasses showing that he cares about whats just happened
  • the other character runs up the stairs, showing that he could either be late or he could be in a rush, also he is wearing a tie with a soft coller which shows that maybe he isnt used to being smart and he isnt clean shaven which shows that he doesnt look too smart, a good contrast to the other character.
  • after, the body is wheeled out which shows that the investigation is under way
  • in the background of this scene the buildings are barred up which shows that the neighbourhood is not safe, its also raining which shows the scene to be negative. the character bumps into some people on the street, which shows that he is a "lad" which is another contrast to the other character.

sound

  • for the first scenes their is hardly any sound apart from him getting ready, this shows concentration
  • the next sound we hear is the lines from the other inspector talking about why their is a body their, he sounds like this is casual which could sum up the kind of neighbourhood they are in, he then says "a crime of passion" which sounds nice saying, but its a murder so its inapropriate. then the main character asks if the kid saw it which shows that he is a caring person, however the other guy starts talking about how he looks too much into things and he cant wait for him to leave, which is horrible, but the audience know that he said that because it creates more work for them
  • in the outside scene you hear rain and police sirens which shows what kind of mood and neighbourhood it is, the two characters then walk and talk, the younger one wants to start the investigation straight away because he is impatient where as the other guy is wise.

  • music low creepy in back ground
  • says 'im going to kill you' in blood, over the shoulder close up to show he is scared and so we see him gasp and worried facial expression
  • lighting low with shadows, low depth of field, point of view and close uo so can see what villains writing
  • only have shots of villains hands to restrict knowledge of who it is
  • dripping blood
  • point of view shot of lots of letters, with more music, to increase suspence and fear as emphasises threats, then moving shot to reveal barts face
  • shot of bar cage thing, looks as if he is trapped
  • scary evil witch like laugh, a cackle
  • shot of bart hiding under covers shows his fear
  • lead you down a fake path by scissors, the nails, shadow of axe which covers bart by shadow, all held by different people to mislead audience
  • establishing shot, tilts up to sky new cut coming down from sky to reveal prison, thunder in both, then goes through bars, so know he is closer then bart thinks, make it more tensed
  • then as hes revealed low key light as thunder and lightening and evil laugh again

Good shots which we may use are the ones of where we just see barts facial expressions or in shots where he looks particularly vulnerable or scared or trapped.

  • music changes to screeching sharper music
  • click of the pc mouse
  • car screeching breaks
  • can horn
  • gun shot
  • credits with a no signal, static sound from tele/radio
  • fire sounds
  • beep for email emphasis

Commonly used are traffic sounds, screeching music, and screams plus gun shot noises. May try to include some of these thriller sounds in our filming.

Chess- Seven

Seven

Characters

Mills
  • judgemental and quick in doing so as mills says 'you've only just met me' when he makes assumptions.
  • slightly nieve maybe as he may not know what hes let himself in for
  • a detective, as at the crime scene
  • abit scruffy, doesnt have his top botton done up, a casual shirt..
  • very cocky, runs up the stairs, very sure of himself as he is so confident but also shows how he is keen.
  • he is late so obviously isnt bothered bout what people think as wasnt trying to make a good impression much..
  • a ladies man as stares as a woman, kind of looks her up and down as she walks past

Sommerset

  • cares about little details like if the kid saw, when no one else really cares
  • he seems very intelligent and patient as has a chess set in his room
  • has a routine, very organised possibly a bit obsessive as meticulous about detail, as he has everything laid out like his suit, pen and things on the side, and even takes off a slight bit of fluff from his jacket.
  • intelluctual as reads hard back books
  • alone, maybe disconnected from people, as has so much time to be organised.

Setting

  • red lights and red writing-symbolises love, passion or blood
  • it was rainging
  • sinister music, to create a mood ready for the horrific actions
  • Urban set- typical traditional setting, as have police forces and people packed areas.
  • very dark low key lights

Whats really good about the seven opening is that, it gives so much about the characters away in such minute detail. For our filming we need to characterise the people down to percific details. The way red is used also does give the whole sense of the seven sins, and the evil surrounding the thriller.

chess- Flashforward

Flashforward

(first three and a half minutes)

Setting

  • Sunny, normal day but not really as establishing shots show deserted, non moving ground.
  • shots of playground with children lieing still on floor, gives impression they are all dead
  • 'ring a ring a roses' tunes is sang by children, like the children looking dead which gives a creepy spine shivering effect. Plus songs all about dieing and plague so could resemble something bigger. starts off as normal tune but gets slightly louder, then nearly stops and then suddenly grows again with children singing at different times and paces and getting faster and louder till its a shout building up the tension and suspense, and then bang the boy gets up, which isnt a big or jumpy action yet it shocks you as before horrible thoughts of the children are dead and how? why? have been going through your mind. Very good piece of editing as really captures just how shocking this thriller may become as is abit scary in the first few seconds.
  • When we see the girl standing there watching alone, at first she looks odd because you think why isnt she freaking out when all the children are dead, but then theres a dfferent look of her when we realise shes alive.
  • shes obviously a slight outcast as wasnt playing and they all stand around her, cricling and cornering her. Making us feel sympathetic towards her.
  • Then as she runs away the music increases msking it seem quicker, then as shes nearly hit by the cars we hear them break, swerve and beep their horn. Making our hearts race without even realising it.
  • Then she runs and we are dollying behind her and as she looks up we tilt up as the camera and see why shes stopped same time she realises it. And the facte its the army startles us a little bit. and then and only then to we hear any sounds of the army, with like the helicopter and radio noises.

Title of 'Flashforward'

is joined by bluebackground and blue text, then a white flash from behind where it comes close to the screen and back making the back ground black and then the titles fades to the men in the room. Is like...

  • sun
  • stars
  • solar sytem/space/planets
  • flashy

Why?

  • sense of slight unatural-ness about the situation..
  • differnet, stands out, resembles what may link to something later in film

All enigma codes lead to make you think whats going on? what black out? What did girl see?

Characters

Man (dad)

  • tie = respectable, smart, makes and effort, neat
  • facial expression= very confused, distressed, or deep in thought bout to snap, and does at the man
  • also looks as if he has some bruises or cuts on his face
  • in his flash we see guns, him stressed, drinking, red layzer gun, in an office

Situation when mans speaking about the 'world'

  • nice an calm, sunny, not deserted but not packed
  • back ground music is calm, slow and softer then say in playground.
  • our focus is on him and he speaks with authority and wisdom, speaks about everyone, this seem to be giving us more detail about whats happened as a whole. Plus he reflects alowing us in.

What makes it a thriller? or works particularly well?

i would say deffinately the children singing songs and laying so still it looks like they are dead is the creepiest bit and has the biggest impact on me. its toying with peoples emotions in a way which draws them in and makes them focus. May try and include some deserted looking shots if they are appropriate, or try and have a effect like the one in the guys flash. As it gives that effect of something slightly traumatic like a bad dream, all shaky and not in the right order and puzzled.

Chess- Pacific Heights

Pacific Heights
In the opening we get the feel and mood of the film.

Outdoor setting
  • sunny
  • country side/open road/ desert
  • hot- heat wave effect and windows right down
  • asian style music
  • base ball bat in back seat on the floor- why?

Indoor setting

  • hotel room?
  • dark, shadows of blinds etc, (low key)
  • photos everywhere
  • half empty no wardrobe looks like they dont live there
  • open brief case
  • small television
  • just a matress on the floor
  • books- intelligence?
  • white, plain and boring

Characters

Men in car

At first they seem quite normal, just driving along on a hot day, then we see the bat roll along the floor and its the first signal that actually maybe these are the traditional 'badies' of the film. Later on just before they burst through the door, we see only their hand turn a key, and then we can only hear fast footprints as the camera dollys along down the corridor. This makes us not know who is coming, just like the characters in the room, so then when we do see them its a shock to us as well as the other characters. Causing a bigger impact of the effect of when they burst through the door.

Man and woman in room

Theres a brief case which suggests he may be a business man, and theres family photos which later reveals they are his family. Theres some books scattered along the floor, suggesting he may read alot and be fairly clever. The woman on the other hand as bright painted nails, and a big ring which gives the impression she may be a rich wife or someone, but her nails wouldnt suggest that she works hard or does manual. Just before the fight as the men storm in, the man doesnt protect the woman he just grabs the sheet and goes, this could mean hes frightened, and slightly coward like, but could show he doesnt feel much emotionally for the woman. Yet she tries to stop them attacking him, which i think may be due to guilt, as she may have been not allowed to be with him. Then after the fight the womans very shaken up yet he isnt, so this gives the impression he has been through alot maybe in his past life, where as she cant belive whats happened and is in shock.

Thriller Aspects...

  • credits fade in here and there around screen quite blended in
  • weapon close up of bat in back of car
  • theres the shot of the man and woman love making in the tv reflection, makes it look like a sin, or as if its trying to be hidden away as we can just about see it so its not crystal clear because the actions not pure.
  • shot of when the mans face is pushed against the glass wall and it makes that horrible screechy sound, and leaves a blood trail, emphasises his situation and how gory it is.
  • the music stops completely before the men entre, so its silent. This makes the bang through the door more of a shock and seem louder.

What i think works really well is having the men coming and as an audience we know they are coming but not who it is, or anything, just seeing parts of their body. Also the fact the main character has a dark secret learking in his closet makes us want to know more.

Ays- 'Flashforward'

Setting

  • Starts off in a playground with children just lying on the floor, still as the dead, making you think they are actually dead, making you wonder whats happened.
  • Going to a shot of the little girl running down a street which looks peaceful and nice until she runs into the Army.
  • Then there is the main character who is in a room which looks like an old hall as it has old fold out chairs and poorly painted walls, giving off the impression it's not very important or well looked after.
  • Switching to a FBI room which is full of compfty big seats, a huge conference table and important things on the blue walls, showing it's importance.

Characters

  • The little girl seems differnt compared to the rest of the children.
  • For starters she doesn't get involved with the game the rest of the children are playing, then when they all discuss what they saw she didn't want to share it with them.
  • Also she doesn't seem to let people push her around as when the boy starts the fight and she gets told off she runs away instead of staying to take her punishment.
  • The male main character who seems to be the little girls dad seems to speak his mind as he interrupts a man in his speach and stands up to what seems like an important person in the FBI without hesitation.

Credits

  • The credits go forward then back again out of the screen with a flash of lights as if a vision or 'flashforward' were happening.

Sound

  • The beginning is children singin 'ring a ring a roses' but in a dreary slow tone making it seem slightly spooky.
  • It then goes completly silent building tension and curiosity as to what's going on and what's going to happen.
  • The music then build up whilst the little girl is running and then goes to it's climax when the Army come in.

Ays- 'Misery'

Credits

  • The credits are red which could represent blood, death or murder.
  • The title is on it's own with a black background showing the impotance of it where as the rest of the credits go over the film its self.
  • Dark and short music plays when the title comes up with a loud harsh sound when it finally sits giving it a scary feeling sending a chill down your spine.
  • Going into the opening there is a typewritter sound leading into the opening.

Camera Work

  • Close up of alcohol, glass and cigarettes, showing sophistication and possibly wealth and a certain life style.
  • Extreme close up of the typewritter in use and then the character writtin 'THE END' at the bottom, shows us he has written some sort of novel.
  • Extreme long shot shows the trees and roads covered in snow, showing he lives in a cold deserted place as there are no houses near.
  • Close up of the characters face showing a sense of achievement and satisfaction.
  • Close up of the wheels of his car sliding showing it's dangerous to drive that fast in the snow and his car can't handle it.
  • Medium long shot of the snow that has hit the tree, shows he has a good shot and where it landed.

Character

  • Clever and determined as he wrote a book of his own and on a typewritter.
  • Old as he says 'Still got it' when he throws the snow at the tree.
  • Also from that maybe he was good at something when he was younger, makes you wounder what he's like as a person.
  • Daredevil as he has just drunk some alcohol and then goes driving at a fast speed on extremely snowy roads which could be very dangerous.

Sound

  • Gentle piano music plays whilst he is finishing his book, seems calm and soothing.
  • Whilst he is driving the music is fun and up beat as if it is something he is listening on the radio.
  • Suddenly cuts off when he loses control and crashes his car.

Ays- 'Vertigo'

Credits
  • Spiral in the middle of the screen changes colour, pattern and size, seems hypnotising, captures viewers attention.

  • Music starts straight away.

  • It's loud and busy then changes to a lighter sound with the occasional cresendo.

  • The spiral goes small into the middle of an eye.

  • The writting is small and white mainly at the side of the screen so that the spiral is still emphasized.

Camera Work

  • Extreme Close up of an eye, makes you wonder who's it is.

  • Blurry dark shot then hands suddenyl grab a pole making it go into focus and makes you jump by the sudden movement.

  • Medium Long shot of the men jumping on roofs chasing one another.

  • Vertigo effect when the man is looking down to the ground, seems like your the character looking down.

  • Extreme long shot when the mans body is on the floor, looks like your seeing it from the roof.

  • The shot of the men chasing eachother on the roof shows the outline of each man and no specific detail apart from the background of the night and the buildings behind.

Characters

  • The villian runs from the police, seems he has done something wrong.

  • Policeman has courage as he runs across roofs to catch the criminal.

  • Also he tries to save the other man who was hanging from the roof but ends up taking his own life trying to save someone else.

  • The man hanging from the roof seemed to be helping the policeman and maybe had a good relationship with him as the policeman tried to save him.

Sound

  • Loud daunting music to start off with and also repetative giving it a hypnotic vibe to go with the spirals.

  • When the man looks down the music got louder as if to emphasize the height he could fall.
Lighting
  • Mainly throughout this opening it's very dark and uses low key lighting.

Ays- 'Blinded'

Main Character

  • Obviously had a normal life as he was driving a car and acts suprised when he is suddenly blinded.

  • Trustworthy as he lets a complete stranger get into his car and drive him home.

  • Vulnerable, can't see and is trusting strangers who could take advantage of him.

  • Lonely as he shouts for help in the middle of the street yet people ignore him and move on.

Opening Credits

  • Out of focus dots at the beginning with 'focus features' written, seems slightly ironis considering the film is about a blind man and is called 'Blinded'.

  • The next credits before the opening starts flash as if you can't see them properly.

  • In the middle of the opening the main character describes what he is experiensing and describes it as 'swimming in milk' and that it's white with black particles.

  • At that point the screen is white with faint bits of black floating around as if you are looking from the characters point of view.

  • Also the word 'Blinded' comes up at this point but is faint and blended in with the background so that you can hardly see it.

Setting

  • Close up of cars and then red and green traffic lights showing that it is in the street and is busy.

  • A birdseye view of the roads show how busy it is.

  • It then cuts to another birdseye view but of a specific part of the city which shows where the main character could be.

  • You get a medium close up of the main character standing in the middle of the road going to a close up of his hands outstretched, showing his confusion and desperation to find something to hold on to.

  • It then goes to a birdseye view of him showing him stranded in the middle of the road and it goes in and out of focus as if showing the viewer what the character is seeing.
Sound

  • Loud car noises and beeping showing it's busy and conjested.
  • People shouting and beeping when the man doesn't start to drive.
  • When the man is in the car the noise from outside gets a lot quieter.

Other

  • The reflection off the windscreen goes white with black ripples to normal again making it feel like we are the blind man and shows us what he might be experiencing.
  • The man who helps him seems dodgey as he doesn't know this man and offers to drive him home.
  • He tells the blind man to get out the car and walk to the curb then he drives off quickly as if he is stealing the car, which the blind man seems to think by the way he reacts.
  • When the blind man is in the car and has realised what's happened he says 'I'm blind' in a different language expressing maybe a different culture.

Chess - Virtigo Opening

Vertigo

in this opening of virtigo, we experience a thrilling chase between what looks like the criminal and the police men. See embeded video for any shot or effect references.

Credits

  • The credits go on for a while, and are right at the start of the thriller, this helps to create the setting even before we see any part of the film.
  • Whats unusual about these credits is that the backgrounds black but there are bright spirals coming from behind the text and theres a very low, taunting background music playing. This gives the effect of slight disorientation and a qwerky, creepy atmosphere, making us at slightly unease.
  • Then the last swirl is in an eye shape which graphic matches onto a persons eye, being the first shot we see and the end of the credits. This also gives a slightly startiling, fearful feel. So as we arent in a nice, calm relaxed mood we are drawn in and get a jist of what the film will be like, being a thriller.

Setting

  • Before we see any part of the character, apart from the mystery persons eye, we see the bars of the ladder, and then hands, then the man. This makes us suspicous of who it is and whats about to happen.
  • Set on rooftops, very high and dangerous, virtigo effect shows that when the image looking down is zoomed out yet the person remains in the same place. Gives the scary disoreintation like the credits, but this time with heights. And the mans facial expression also shows that as he goes all funny in the face due to so much fear.
  • Theres a long establishing shot, showing the roof tops and the night sky and we can see the characters running along, we know ones a police man as he is dressed in a uni form. This shot gives us the blood pumping adrenaline rush as we can fully see the chase and how they are catching up.
  • The shorter shots, and slight shot reverse shot of the police man trying to rescue the haning man, makes it a quicker pace to show how dangerous this bit is, as like we find out its deadly. The shots looking directly down also show this danger, and for the hanging man its reinforced more by when the dead policeman is at the bottom. It creates alot of suspence making it more interesting.

In conclusion, Virtigos opening works well as we get alot of action very quickly, yet theres alot more action and things we dont yet know and will find out later. The vitigoe effect works well in creating a disorientated view however im not sure it would be appropriate in our filming.

Tom - One Hour Photo

One Hour Photo

a) the main character, what sort of a person?

the main character was, in my opinion, quite a nerdy character. At the beginning of the film when the shot was on his photo he looked very weird with glasses, being bald with little bits of blond hair and wearing very boring cloths, also when the policeman said now turn to the right, he hesitated and started turning left, but then turned right. also the way he sits, waiting for the policeman to come in his legs are crossed over which looks very restricted and nervous, and when the policeman talks about his photo which "aren't pretty," he asks to see then which could show the character being obsessive about his photo's. then the character asks THE POLICEMAN weather they have their own photo lab which is an odd question to ask when he is being held in a white interrogation room. also nearing the end of this short sequence the audience is interested with him because when the policeman asks a question the camera shows him thinking deeply about it, showing his emotions, this makes the audience want to know more about him.

b) how do you feel about the main character - why?

in this short sequence you feel a number of different emotions about the character, because first of all you see him being told which way to go and where to stand, which no one wants to have done to them however when you discover that he is at a police station your mind jumps to he must have done something wrong to be in a police station. also you feel confused about the character because when he is in the white room he is nervous, and even though he is in what looks like an interrogation room he asks to see his pictures which is bizarre because hes the one being interrogated, however then we slightly like the character because then he asks, and is interested in whether the police station has its own photo lab, which is nice because although he appears to be in trouble with them he is still friendly to them. then finally you feel bad for him because he then gets asked a question and goes into deep thought, its obviously a painful memory from his facial expressions, and then a quick look at the policeman to tell him the answer

c)analyse the opening credits- why have they created them in this particular way?

the credits slide in from the left hand side of the screen which is interesting because its almost as if they are on a reel, they also look like some sort of file number with the directors name because of the zeros and the small lines in the bottom right side of the screen, then it fad's out. when you first see the credits it makes you confused because you don't know why they are shown like that, and you don't know what it means.

d)the setting- what sort of atmosphere does this build and how have camerawork, M en S, editing and sound helped to create this?

the setting builds a very tense atmosphere, you can tell this because of the white walls being neutral which is creepy and the part where the policeman tells Robin Williams to turn to the left because that's him giving Robin an order which he is tense about. also the very first camera shot is an eye level shot of a camera pointing at the audience, which starts of being very intimidating, then the music builds up to a climax when the flash goes off, this is effective on the audience because it confuses them but straight away grabs their attention. when the character has had his mugshot taken it shows a very negative atmosphere because his facial expressions are neutral, emotionless which creates a serious vibe also his cloths are very neutral so it shows that the character isn't really a fun, happy guy. when the camera pans over from the TV screen to the window, it shows him sitting on his own in a white room with only a chair and a table, this is a negative atmosphere because the room looks so empty and the character obviously looks unhappy in the room. when the policeman enters the room the camera shows that he restricts the pictures from the main character, saying that he cannot look at them, this emphasizes the negative atmosphere, and finally when the policeman enters the white room you only hear the door close and his footsteps which are very spesific sounds because they echo which adds to the tense atmosphere.

e) how do sound, mise en scene, camerawork and editing create the effect of the flashback?

they all contribute to making the flashback work really nicely.

  • sound

the sound when it starts is very dreamlike, showing that it is a flashback and not a different scene, also the children are laughing in the background of the narration which shows a completely different mood change

  • mise en scene
the very first shot of the flashback is children on a climbing frame which lots of different coloured shirts on which shows the difference between the white room and this, also there is a camera documenting all the good photo's which the main character comments about. also their is cake in the shot, the family being playful and shoving it in the kids face, which shows a significant difference.
  • editing

when it starts their is a certain glow in the shot, which wouldn't be their normally, this creates a dream like effect, as if we have gone back in time, this is effective because we feel like this is a different scene, then it jumps back to him being interrogated.

One Hour Photo - Jon Lambert

One Hour Photo's opening sequence most definately leaves its audience questioning. First of all, with the titles.

Opening Credits
The opening credits are depicted as a roll of film being developed. In the background we hear drums and sinister music, alongside the sounds of the machine developing. Following these shots, there is a shot of a camera, however it is a confusing one as we don't know what the device is. Once the music has built, we see a white flash and hear a high tone. Immediately following this shot, we see the character for the first time.

The Main Character
The main character is confusing from the start. First shown in a picture loading (close-up shot), he is clearly not a hardened criminal. Although, that is made clear to us that he is some sort of criminal when we see his picture on the screen, with all the federal information too.
He is shown to be nervous, as when he is asked to turn to his right, the camera switches to a long shot and he momentarily confuses himself. We can then see his nervous body movement.
The camera is then viewing a screen, on which we can see the main character sitting alone in a white room. The camera pans to look through a glass window, which gives the impression that he is under survaillance. This becomes a long shot, as the main character and the interviewer begin their conversation. The camera becomes an eye level 180 degree switch, as the conversation continues.

The Setting
The setting is very plain, clean and "sterile". There aren't many colours in any of the scenes, especially the white room interviewing scene. In this scene, there is an extreme long shot; which gives the character an isolated look. Adding to this is the lack of objects or scenery, as the only items are a chair and table.

The flashback
  • The sound has alot of reverb
  • The lighting is very bright and the colours are vibrant, with a high saturation
  • The scene is in slow motion
  • There is an audio bridge transition between the main characters face, and the flashback scene, we hear childeren laughing before we see a camera. This gives the effect of the main character thinking of the scene before we see it ourself.
  • The main character becomes the narrator, with a voice-over the scene.

Chess- One Hour Photo Opening

One Hour Photo
In this Thriller opening, we are successfully drawn into the film and are desperate to know more. We learn little about what has happened so our minds wonder off with all these questions, and we even feel some empathy for the character we know not much about, but theres certain aspects of this opening showing its a thriller...

Main Chracter

  • nice looking, not creepy or of a percific stereotype/group

  • very nervous but calm

  • looks respectable, plain normal clother, short combed hair, glasses and a shirt..

  • very vulnerable looking, in many of the shots he is alone in the centre, in a big open space quite a simple man maybe, image to the left possible confused as gets left and right muddled up- could be due to under alot of pressure and stress
  • gives you enigma codes and makes you wonder what he has done, and what the 'not pretty' photos are, plus if he really is to blame for whatever the crime is, sounds like maybe he was pushed to do it or had good reasoning

  • so this causes us to feel abit sympathetic towards him even though he may be mean, just he doesnt appear it, something about him we can relate to. we dont hate him or feel any bad feelings towards him in the opening, maybe they want us to like him as we seem to start feeling something of a sympathetic care for him already.

the Credits

  • the backgrounds all dark, pitch black so not bright with colours

  • writing starts off black, but will flash and change to red glow

  • then 'One Hour Photo' title flashes to red and then to different colours

  • theres background sound very low key, qwerky music, and when credits change theres a slight boom kind of sound, one time theres a traffic drone, -already setting scene through credits

  • red = blood? love? passion? enigma codes already

  • flashes= like a camera

  • also some markings around/on screen which gives it an interesting but unusual look, also appears like the marking on a photograph..

  • probably done like this to not only reflect the idea of photos and cameras which is even mentioned in the main title of the film but also to give us that sense of how its abit dark, maybe sinister, so setting the feel and tensed atmosphere of what may later come.

Setting

  • in the opening 3 minute clip there are two main scenes we see, the police station and the garden

  • first very shot we see a is close up of the camera, very white even the room its in appears white. background music getting louder and increasing of the impact and speed of it, makes you brase yourself and get ready to jump as very suspensed atmosphere. then theres the loud and very bright flash from the camera, image to right, makes you jump, but you're drawn in and want more, as youre paying your full attention now.

  • then a few shots of the main character standing against a blue screen having his photo taken, he is totally alone in the shot and its very open and big spaced, looks like hes very vulnerable and all eyes are on him so maybe hes slightly embarrased--his tensedness causes us to feel tensed too, partly due to the framing of him and the appearencess of the shot.

  • later see a mid shot of him in the questioning room on the television. its ever so dark, no light on in the room just light from the window and tv. empty chair-- gives deserted feel yet also the sense he is being watched by someone who we dont know yet (restricted) then the shot is a very long shot as moves to the side and travells through the wide window see image to left, then the police man/ detective walks in, as its so quiet the buzz from the door is a shock, and then he talks to him while standing up (in same long shot) shows the authroity he has over the man, hands over the photos in envelope on desk. the silence shows the awkwards situation

  • the interview room and the garden seem to be exact opposites of each other. after the shot reverse shots of the main character and the detective, the flashback is joined with background music, theres a close up of the main characters face and as he stares the sound builds into a high pitch note, then the next shot it changes to a much softer, calmer, light notes music. And it goes from a very white, plain room to a brightly coloured, sunny, happy, filled and very alive garden, the atmosphere is alot calmer in the garden then the interview room. It also looks as if the garden action has been slowed down, slower then the normal speed it was filmed in, during editing, probably to show its in his memory and he is recollecting. This complete opposite in mood and place gives a bigger impact, because they just are totally different, and if they had been similar the transition would be minimal. It also shows how different the mans life was, and this causes us to wonder how he went from that one place to this interview room. The voice over the flashback is his voice, and it shows the connection and as he speaks he sounds wise, with words of wisdom, increasing our interest and emotion for the character.

Overall...

what I think is so good about this thriller opening is how there is so much we don't know, yet we know where he will end up at the end, due to the flashback. But in a short few minutes it pulls you in so deep that you get a sense or care for the character and are intrigued to how his life has so rapidly changed. What we could use for our opening is to have some shots of the victim in the centre of the frame, to show the vulnerability of the character. Also to have some shots which are abit longer then others, but where only a minute piece of action happens, to give a real big bang effect.

Ays- Opening to 'One Hour Photo'

The main character- what sort of person?

  • Quiet
  • Clumsy
  • Nervous
  • Keeps to himself
  • Alone
  • Calm
  • Curious

How do you feel about the main character-why?

  • Curious because he keeps to himself and isn't giving much away about himself.
  • Sorry for him as he seems quite normal and scared but he is keeping calm.
  • Wonder what he has done and how bad it is.
  • Wonder how his life was in the past and how it is now.

Analyse the opening credits- Why have they created them in this way?

  • They come on like a code or ID style with numbers and bar codes possibly to match the police identity shot.
  • They go from white to red as if they started out pure then went bad or something has been killed.
  • They have a flash as if from a camera taking a picture to fit with the title and the point of the story about taking pictures of things and also when the main character was having his photograph taken.
  • They shoot on from the left hand side of the screen as if like a bullet being shot.

The setting- What sort of atmosphere does this build and how have camera work, M en S, editing and sound help create this?

  • The shot of the office is quite dark and has a monitor and paper work on the desk gives us the idea of an office in a police station.
  • It then pans to the big window showing the man in a single big white room which was on the moitor.
  • The white room only has one table and two chairs in it which are also white accept the chairs are orange, making it feel lonely and secluded.
  • The pan shows us that the two rooms are connected so it gives us a good idea of where they are.
  • It seems very sterile because of all of the white. So it seems clean, empty and big.

How does sound, Mise en Scene, camera work and editing create the effect of the flashback?

  • Music starts to build up and is like background music.
  • The garden scene is going in slow motion and has no sound from that scene, just the quiet music and the main chracter doing a narrative.
  • Going into the flash back it goes from a close up of the main character in thw white room staring off and then slightly looking up to a cut of a woman taking a picture somewhere bright and colourful.
  • His expression in the close up looks like he is thinking carefully and deeply about something.

How do aspects of Mise en Scene and sound work to communicate very different atmospheres between the two places (the police interview room and the family celebration in the garden.)

  • In the police station its very plain and white with minimal furniture and only two people in the room.
  • In the garden it's bright and colourful with party things such as ballons, hats, cake and plenty of people, kids and adults.
  • They are running around laughing and smiling in the garden where as in the police station they are having a serious conversation.
  • In the police interview room they are dressed in normal everyday clothes with no props accept a file on the table. No windows just one door and 4 plain walls made out of stone.
  • Enclosed space in the police room.
  • Garden is spacious and there is a big house.
