chess- Flashforward

Flashforward

(first three and a half minutes)

Setting

  • Sunny, normal day but not really as establishing shots show deserted, non moving ground.
  • shots of playground with children lieing still on floor, gives impression they are all dead
  • 'ring a ring a roses' tunes is sang by children, like the children looking dead which gives a creepy spine shivering effect. Plus songs all about dieing and plague so could resemble something bigger. starts off as normal tune but gets slightly louder, then nearly stops and then suddenly grows again with children singing at different times and paces and getting faster and louder till its a shout building up the tension and suspense, and then bang the boy gets up, which isnt a big or jumpy action yet it shocks you as before horrible thoughts of the children are dead and how? why? have been going through your mind. Very good piece of editing as really captures just how shocking this thriller may become as is abit scary in the first few seconds.
  • When we see the girl standing there watching alone, at first she looks odd because you think why isnt she freaking out when all the children are dead, but then theres a dfferent look of her when we realise shes alive.
  • shes obviously a slight outcast as wasnt playing and they all stand around her, cricling and cornering her. Making us feel sympathetic towards her.
  • Then as she runs away the music increases msking it seem quicker, then as shes nearly hit by the cars we hear them break, swerve and beep their horn. Making our hearts race without even realising it.
  • Then she runs and we are dollying behind her and as she looks up we tilt up as the camera and see why shes stopped same time she realises it. And the facte its the army startles us a little bit. and then and only then to we hear any sounds of the army, with like the helicopter and radio noises.

Title of 'Flashforward'

is joined by bluebackground and blue text, then a white flash from behind where it comes close to the screen and back making the back ground black and then the titles fades to the men in the room. Is like...

  • sun
  • stars
  • solar sytem/space/planets
  • flashy

Why?

  • sense of slight unatural-ness about the situation..
  • differnet, stands out, resembles what may link to something later in film

All enigma codes lead to make you think whats going on? what black out? What did girl see?

Characters

Man (dad)

  • tie = respectable, smart, makes and effort, neat
  • facial expression= very confused, distressed, or deep in thought bout to snap, and does at the man
  • also looks as if he has some bruises or cuts on his face
  • in his flash we see guns, him stressed, drinking, red layzer gun, in an office

Situation when mans speaking about the 'world'

  • nice an calm, sunny, not deserted but not packed
  • back ground music is calm, slow and softer then say in playground.
  • our focus is on him and he speaks with authority and wisdom, speaks about everyone, this seem to be giving us more detail about whats happened as a whole. Plus he reflects alowing us in.

What makes it a thriller? or works particularly well?

i would say deffinately the children singing songs and laying so still it looks like they are dead is the creepiest bit and has the biggest impact on me. its toying with peoples emotions in a way which draws them in and makes them focus. May try and include some deserted looking shots if they are appropriate, or try and have a effect like the one in the guys flash. As it gives that effect of something slightly traumatic like a bad dream, all shaky and not in the right order and puzzled.

  1. Try to use terms for narrative (eg restricted narration), and explain how this is achieved. There needs to be more sense that camera communicates most of what you understand in any sequence. Where you discuss editing, you need to use terms and be much more precise about techniques and effects.
