Tom- Arlington road

camera work
  • the first shot is complete darkness, then it fades into blurs of a child, then the shot changes to his feet, still in blur to make the audience confused of what they see
  • then a low angle shot of the child's legs walking towards the camera, we can see he is struggling to walk, almost like a zombie
  • extreme close op of the child's eyes, not in the centre of the shot, his eyes look intense
  • a blurred pan of the trees and the roof tops, looking through his eyes
  • a close up of his feet struggling to walk again, this time its much clearer, this keeps the audience interested because we don't know whats wrong with him, puts questions into his head
  • a close up of the back of his head, again not in the centre of the shot which shows unsteadiness
  • a blurred mid close up of his mouth, open a bit which is like a zombie, also it pans to his eyes which again suggests that he is a zombie because they aren't focused on anything
  • low angle shot of houses, a POV shot because the camera moves as if he is walking with it
  • side view extreme close up of the kids face again, really emphasizing that he isn't well or hes a zombie
  • a quick shot of him turning his head then going back to a POV shot of houses, its really blurred
  • a low angle shot of the child clutching his arm, looks in pain and in distress
  • the next few camera shots are very quick, which builds action in the scene, then its back to a very low angle shot of his feet struggling to walk
  • you then see droplets of blood on his shoes which shows that hes hurt, this helps the audience to understand why he has been walking and looking like he has
  • then next shot is the same shot but he is walking quicker which builds the pace of the scene and builds the action
  • there is then an over the shoulder shot of a man driving a car, we see in the shot that he has to brake suddenly to not hit the child
  • there is a mid close up shot of the kids face, looking really unwell which shows that maybe these two characters are linked
  • there is a small panning shot of the man getting out of the car, stopping for the kid
  • long shot of the kid walking up the road
  • cuts back and forth between the kid and the man, this builds the suspense because we know that the kid is in a bad way but he doesn't
  • a panning shot of the kid, then we see his wound on his arm, its really gory, this helps the audience to realise that he has been hurt this whole time, we don't know why he is hurt, this is what the audience wants to know, also they zoom in on his wound which is really shocking and disturbing
  • a quick panning of the man stopping the kid, the camera shots speed up to keep up with the action
  • a mid close up shot of the kid collapsing in his arms, the kid then becomes normal in this situation and is in a lot of pain, he is screaming which makes the audience really shocked, and the camera is constantly moving around them which builds the shock up nicely
  • a close up shot of the kid on the floor in extreme pain to emphasize how bad his injury is
  • a quick shot of the car driving past then the pale close up shot of his face

sound

  • starts of with low eary music to build up what sort of scene it is
  • although the music is still eary, there is still normal sounds like birds singing
  • we then here voices in the child's head, saying for him to do it? which makes the audience want to know what he is saying to do
  • there is then a build in the music, which creates an anticlimax
  • the voices in his head start up again, him saying to do it and hurry up, this makes the audience try to guess what it is he was doing
  • the eary music then picks up and the voices in his head gets loader, building up the action using sound
  • when he turns his head the music quickens and gets more eary and load, matching action with sound
  • there is a voice in his head that then gets really load and says let me out, this is a desperate cry for help, then the music picks up a lot
  • the music then dyes down, then when there is a base hit we see the blood on his shoes, this shocks the audience because we weren't expecting it
  • the music then picks up in speed when he starts walking quickly, then it jumps to the man in the car
  • from this scene til the end the music is very fast, this matches with the quick paced action
  • when we see his wound the music peaks, this is the massive climax that this whole scene has been leading up to
  • he then yells for help and the kid screams in pain, this creates a very dramatic effect because he screams for help but know one comes and the kid screams in pain but no one can help him apart from this one man

mise en scene

  • the location is key to this clip because he is in, what you would expect to be a busy road of houses, however the road is completely empty which adds to the eary effect
  • the kid is dressed in normal cloths, and the man is in a shirt and tie which suggests that he is on his way to work, he drives a nice car which suggests that he has a good job
  • its also cloudy which adds to the effect
