- first shot is a shot of the characters back, it sets the scene that you are in a house, it also shows that this character is very clean because if you look around his kitchen you can see nothing left on the counter. he then walks towards the counter buttoning up his shirt, which tells the audience he is preparing to go somewhere.
- the next shot is a mid close up that shows him doing up his tie, this is very significant because he does it up very precisely which shows that he wants to look very smart, making his tie look right
- there is then a shot of him picking up items from a table, the items are put out in a specific order which shows he is organised
- then the shot shows him picking dust of his suit, from a low angle shot, they used this shot because it shows that his suit is perfectly laid out on the bed, which again shows that he is very neat and organised.
- there is then a scene change to a slow tilt of a dead body showing that someone has been murdered, because the tilt reveals blood next to the body
- then there is another, even slower tilt of the main character walking towards the camera looking around the room, this shot helps the audience to know that he is a detective
- the next shot is a shot of another investigator
- it then jumps back to him, a slow tilt going up when he stands up straight from him looking at the fridge
- the camera then tilts down to show the other main character running up the stairs, his movements also suggest that he is a detective
- it then chops between the different characters talking using mid close ups
- the next shot is outside, people wheeling away the dead body and the detectives coming out the door, they use a low angle shot looking up to show the derelict buildings behind them. in the same shot the camera then dollies beside them, still keeping the low angle and shows the younger character bumping into people, showing that he is more unprofessional then the other. the camera stops when the stop, then switches places so the characters are round the other way moving up when the get closer, then back when they walk away.
mise en scene
- the first image is of his kitchen, which is nice and clean, also he owns a chess board and is buttoning up a shirt which suggests that he is clever and going out somewhere
- then it shows him doing up his tie, this is a longer shot because its shows how precis he is about looking smart, creating a good character.
- the next clip shows how organised he is, he has a pocket watch, a smart pen and other items lined out in a specific order which shows he is neat
- the next item is his suit, perfectly laid out on the bed, this shows how clean he is also his bed is perfectly made which emphasizes my point
- the scene changes to a dark room with a dead body in it, a single light on the top of the dead body to show what we should be looking at, also their is blood on the floor which shows that their has been a murder
- their is blood on the blinds as well as the floor which shows that it was quite a brutal death
- the main character looks unhappy when he takes of his glasses showing that he cares about whats just happened
- the other character runs up the stairs, showing that he could either be late or he could be in a rush, also he is wearing a tie with a soft coller which shows that maybe he isnt used to being smart and he isnt clean shaven which shows that he doesnt look too smart, a good contrast to the other character.
- after, the body is wheeled out which shows that the investigation is under way
- in the background of this scene the buildings are barred up which shows that the neighbourhood is not safe, its also raining which shows the scene to be negative. the character bumps into some people on the street, which shows that he is a "lad" which is another contrast to the other character.
sound
- for the first scenes their is hardly any sound apart from him getting ready, this shows concentration
- the next sound we hear is the lines from the other inspector talking about why their is a body their, he sounds like this is casual which could sum up the kind of neighbourhood they are in, he then says "a crime of passion" which sounds nice saying, but its a murder so its inapropriate. then the main character asks if the kid saw it which shows that he is a caring person, however the other guy starts talking about how he looks too much into things and he cant wait for him to leave, which is horrible, but the audience know that he said that because it creates more work for them
- in the outside scene you hear rain and police sirens which shows what kind of mood and neighbourhood it is, the two characters then walk and talk, the younger one wants to start the investigation straight away because he is impatient where as the other guy is wise.
